What a Shame!

Kidnapping, a way of life.
An Article by Joe Igbuzor, National Coordinator Niger Delta Group for Good Governance (NDGGG).

History have it that the people of Niger delta are great entrepreneurs who are Palm-wine Tappers, Rubber Merchants, Palm kernel Sellers, Farmers, Fishermen and great warriors that drums battles for decades to reclaim their farm lands from intruders before the discovering of oil in the Niger delta firstly at Olobiri in River state. The event that have masqueraded itself today as kidnapping was prominent in civilized societies like Brazil, where the children of the affluence in societies are being abducted in schools and ransom are being demanded before the release of such children, today we have a case in hand where not only foreigners or expatriate staff of Oil Companies are being kidnapped but also as a popular way to settle political difference and better way to make money than robbery. The advent of technology i.e. global telecommunication system makes it easier for criminals to seat at the comfort of their rooms and make calls to prospective victims to demand for ransom, this is even worrisome that children at full glare of society, watch helpless individual being attacked and also the Priest in the church watch helplessly when worshippers are being shot and taken away like common criminals. We the people of Niger delta need urgent attention to change the ugly trend with holistic views not to attribute all the blame to government for ineptitude and moral decadence but also to wake up to our responsibility in the following ways;

1) We should not celebrate thieves and criminals in the communities
2) Constant dialogue in our towns meeting and conference with issues of moral
3) Shun and learn to say the truth irrespective of the immediate gain, for our children watches us
4) Know the virtues of being a community leader and not self acclaim leader
5) Learn to say no and leave honorably and the mask of shame and grace that follows dishonest people
6) Spend time with our children and teach them values in families
7) The big question” do you have voters card?” we must register and cast our votes to bring credible people into government.

It pays to walk in honor and bring the desired change. We have no other communities or state or country than Nigeria. We can justify our existence by effecting a change in the society. Do not say “nobody can change the system” do you know we have great people that have paid the price for what we enjoy today? I am proud to be a Niger Deltan. Add your voice to this crusade of good governance in Niger delta. Joe Igbuzor Coordinator of Niger Delta Group For Good Governance (NDGGG).
